The short version: YouTube Resume stores your video playback positions locally on your device. Nothing is sent to any server we operate. No accounts, no tracking, no analytics. The one optional network request — loading thumbnail images from YouTube's servers — can be turned off in Settings.
YouTube Resume is a Chrome extension that saves your playback position in YouTube videos so you can resume exactly where you left off — even after closing a tab, restarting your browser, or experiencing a crash. Version 2.0 adds a saved videos panel with thumbnails, titles, and progress tracking, plus user-configurable settings. It works automatically in the background and requires no configuration to get started.
YouTube Resume stores the following information, and only this information:
dQw4w9WgXcQ)This data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API. It is never transmitted, shared, or accessible to anyone other than you. You can view and delete this data at any time from the extension's popup, either per video or all at once.

YouTube Resume makes at most one kind of network request: when you open the extension's popup and the "Load thumbnails" setting is on (the default), it requests a thumbnail image for each saved video from i.ytimg.com, YouTube's own public image CDN. This request includes the video's ID, which is already public information — nothing else about you or your viewing history is sent.
Outside of this one thumbnail request, YouTube Resume makes no network requests. It does not communicate with any server, including one operated by the developer.
YouTube Resume requests exactly two permissions from Chrome:
No other permissions are requested. The extension cannot read your browsing history, access other tabs, or interact with any website other than YouTube.
All data is stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local. This storage is private to the extension and is not accessible to websites, other extensions, or any external party.
The extension stores progress for a maximum of 200 videos. When this limit is reached, the oldest entries are automatically removed to make room for new ones. You can remove individual videos from the extension popup, or delete all stored data at once using "Clear saved progress" in Settings. Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data.
YouTube Resume does not integrate with or communicate with any third-party services. The extension operates entirely within your browser.
This extension does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Because no data is collected or transmitted, the extension poses no privacy risk to users of any age.
